I had an Electro-Voice mic; top quality. I still have a now-unusable Stahly blade razor, with a wind-up vibrating handle--also made in South Bend. Maybe Rock endorsed Studebakers ..
I think Chicago has a good case for being the first transcontinental team, playing Stanford (in Palo Alto) in 1894 and Penn in 1897. They didn't really plough the field, though ..
He did endorse Studebaker and they had a model called the Rockne. I agree on Chicago. They were the first football team to cross the Rockies. Carlisle was also a play anyone, anywhere team, but Notre Dame was the first to consistently play intersectional games in the regular season. They are called the Ramblers by many sportswriters.

Great read! Thank you so much for this.
Fascinating read. Thanks for sharing.
I have to wonder how they feel about the biographical film "Knute Rockne: All-American", with Pat O'Brien as Rock and Ronald Reagan as The Gipper.
We talked generically about it, but I'll check with them.
Terrific! Would love to see a podcast version.
