College Yearbook Football Images, Part I
College yearbooks are among my primary sources of player and game images, so I have looked at many of them, mostly those from before 1960. To date, I’ve reviewed the football section of nearly 3,800 yearbooks from 250+ colleges. I’ve concentrated on the big schools since that is where most stories originate, but for every Ohio State, I’ve looked at the Oberlins and Otterbeins as well.
Pre-1910 yearbooks had few unposed images and lower-quality photographs and printing, so all the images shown are from 1911 to 1953. Still, along the way, I’ve come across some great images that few people have seen in the last 50 or 100 years. So, today and tomorrow, I’ll publish some of these forgotten images for your viewing pleasure.

In 2013 as new chair of the board, I found myself helping clean out the 'green room' of Berkeley's public-access TV station. What should I find but the 1938 Cal yearbook, which included full coverage of the Thunder Team of 1937. How did it get there? It went across the street to the historical society ..
Great photos! The first one has a perfect example of the “gridiron” field lining
