Wichita State has an interesting football history, with two of its better-known moments occurring in 1905 when the school was known as Fairmount University.
In January 1987 a reporter asked Parcells if he was a Lawrence Taylor-type linebacker at Wichita State. Parcels replied, "Oh yeah, but I was a little better. I was definitely stronger probably a little faster."
The legend was Wichita State audited their seating and found that by counting bleachers as one seat per so many inches that the stadium was under 30,000 and under the I-A rules of the day would have to reclassify I-AA for not meeting the attendance criteria so opted to drop

Thanks. I just did a newspaper search and didn't find anything to corroborate the legend, but that doesn't mean it's not true.
