1909 Kansas yearbook

Before football fields came equipped with injury carts, players whose injuries prevented them from leaving the field under their own power did so with the assistance of a teammate under each arm or, worse, with help from four stretcher bearers.

Of course, either scenario is preferable to the treatment received by Brimlovich, the robot whose wind was knocked out during the championship football game attended by George Jetson and Mr. Spacely.
