Great post! I was unaware of the Michie-Bagley connection. How is this not a movie?

You mention Worth Bagley briefly, who was from Raleigh, NC. I never realized he played football, but did know about him for other reasons. His death in the Spanish-American War was widely seen as an indication of the mending of the rift between the North and South after the Civil War, earning him great acclaim; a statue was erected to honor his memory in May 1907, and still stands outside the Capitol Building. For years afterwards, whenever a Naval team (most often the USS Franklin) came to Raleigh, they'd visit the statue to pay homage to Bagley before the game.

Very interesting. Thanks for honoring these American heroes, and gridiron legends by preserving their memories.

I'm disappointed in the expansion plans for the stadium. Will change the view of the river and terrain from the stands to its detriment.

I agree that it will be detrimental in certain respects, but it needs updating. At least most colleges modernize their stadium on the same site rather than tearing them down.

What I thought was the river by the stadium is actually the reservoir. I'm all for modernization that is similar to an established aesthetic. I like what Duke did with its stadium and the Georgian influences to UNC's stadium expansions (not what they did with the press box and later guest box atop the sideline upper decks).
