Today's Tidbit... Rocking The Rock's Letter Sweaters
Slippery Rock football has enjoyed several periods of national notoriety, including being touted by a Boston sportswriter and playing Boston U in the 1930s. The tradition of announcing Slippery Rock scores at Michigan home games ultimately led to their playing Shippensburg at Michigan Stadium before 61,000 fans.
Before that occurred, however, the future teachers at Slippery Rock Normal School claimed the 1907 state championship after beating Indiana (of Pennsylvania), Clarion, and The Kiski School. Although the requirements to earn a Slippery Rock letter sweater at the time are unknown, similar schools awarded sweaters to those playing in a specific number of games or the key rivalry games
