An All-American tackle and captain at Notre Dame under Knute Rockne in 1927, Fred Miller regularly returned to Notre Dame to assist in coaching over the next several decades. For his day job, Miller kept busy running the brewery his grandfather founded. A civic leader who helped bring the Braves to Milwaukee, Miller was killed in a 1954 plane crash along with his son and two pilots.
