An ankle injury caused fullback “Gap” Powell to miss Oregon State’s 1920 game with Cal. The Beavers tied the game 7-7 in the fourth quarter, but a late field goal and a touchdown gave Cal the 17-7 victory. Cal’s Wonder Team gave up only 14 points all season while averaging 56 points per game, stuffing Ohio State in the Rose Bowl 28-0 to take the national title.
