Seems like you would not get a good bit of traction, probably why they failed

Their testing suggested they were quite effective, but I suspect you are right. I can imagine they might work well in certain field conditions and not others, especially harder surfaces.

Very interesting. The catalog description makes the ring cleat seem far superior. Wonder why they didn't catch on. Was there a problem with them? If so, what was it. Guess the people who bought and used them are probably all gone now. So, without a time machine, who can find out? Were they tried in other sports played on grass, like soccer?

There were flurries of articles two or three times when first announced and on the market, but little after that. Kavanagh became the head of the national trainers organization during the same period, but post-1952, news articles are hard to come by.
