1943 Tulane Jambalaya

Coaching from the sideline was illegal in the early 1940s, and the rules governing the behavior of players and coaches on the sideline were specific, including:

All who are admitted within the enclosure must be seated throughout the game. No person shall be allowed to walk up and down on either side of the field.

So, while it is too late now, Tulane’s #60 should have been penalized on the play shown above.

Of course, the other cool thing about the image is the yardage box marked as the center line rather than the 50-yard line, which was unusual even for the time.
