I know youve talked previously about the history of the helmet, but do you have an article on kinda the evolution of the leather helmet? It seems to have been common by 1923 but it looks like it was mostly absent from field before WWI. When was the tipping point where leatherheads became the norm?

I don't have an article on that period, though it is part of the chapter I'm currently writing for my next book. Helmets became common after 1900, though usage varied from school to school. By 1910, most players wore head harnesses or flattop headgear, while the modern helmet shape became the norm around WWI. Even then, they remained soft leather until the fibre crowns of the 1920s and 1930s.
