According to alumnus Jamie Quirk in his 'Minnesota: The Golden Years 1932-1940', the event was a bit more colorful: The hotel burned down after the team dined and then visited the local bordello ("Tell them to visit the Golden West Whore House!.") before returning. Bernie Bierman milked the event; his line "If you are subs, go ahead and jump; regulars, use the fire escape!" won him a gilded frame award ..
