Who would have thought that new technology would uncover forgotten treasures of the past? Great job, Tim, in taking football research to a whole new level.
The passes in the Fairmount-Washburn game were not a legal forward passes. They occurred in an experimental game before the rules were officially changed, so, by rule, it was nearly equal to the many illegal forward passes that go back to Camp's playing days.
Love Nelson's book, but he is entirely wrong on this one if he considered it the first forward pass. I'd be open to an argument about the Nebraska-Doane spring game, but, again, it was not a regular season forward pass.
