Trimble was the losing coach in at least one Grey Cup that my home town Winnipeg Blue Bombers won in the 50s and 60s. Somebody in Winnipeg even cut an audio record about it, a parody of the Kingston Trio's "Tom Dooley" telling him to "eat your humble pie"!

He was the winning coach for Hamilton in the 1957 Grey Cup against Winnipeg. His Wiki page has a story about Winnipeg fans taking a dislike to him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Trimble

It must have been the '58 Cup that spawned the record, because the Bombers faced Hamilton again that year and won that time.

There are a bunch of newspaper articles about fans singing to him in 1958: "Hang down your head, Jim Trimble,

Hang down your head and cry."

Coming of age as I did in the wide goal post era, I was shocked when I learned the current width is the original width. Partly because I seem to recall the conversation at the time was about moving to the NFL width, not the 1870s width.

We're just a few years away from the second narrow goal era having existed as long as the wide goal era.

I had not thought of that, but a nice observation, even a conversation starter. Like, how would college football be different if they kept it wide?

I think LSU still has H style goalposts (although cantilevered over the end line) in Tiger Stadium. Or maybe it’s Free Shoes U in Tallahassee. I know there’s at least one big-time Southern school with H style goalposts.

LSU, Florida State and Washington State still use H style per a source from a few years a ago.

Thanks. I can’t recall the last Wazzu game I saw, but games from Death Valley or Doak Campbell are a staple.
