About a month and a half ago, I posted a Tidbit showing an image of shoulder pads worn by a 1910 high school team. Those shoulder pads were simple leather or cloth pads sewn on the jersey exterior. By 1918, however, Reach had taken the art of making shoulder and collar bone protectors to unimaginable heights. Made of leather or leatherette, khaki, and felt padding, they protected our boys like nothing we'd seen before. The best of the best was only $6.50 a pair.
