I sent two Tidbits by mistake yesterday. I had one scheduled for Saturday night and should have rescheduled it for today after completing the story on the Lafayette Cup, but I didn’t. Since it takes more time to research and write a Tidbit than I have available today, I went through the archives to find a rerun from each year I’ve been writing these gems.
My first blog post appeared on my old site and involved trying to figure out the story behind a few postcards.
My first book told the story of the military team that played in the 1918 and 1919 Rose Bowls, so my early stories often had a military theme. This one looked at the origins of playing That Star-Spangled Banner before football games.
The story of why quarterbacks used to call the plays is relevant today, given the recent scandal involving signal stealing.
Football has many rules that solved a problem in the past. Some became unnecessary and were discarded, while others continued fitting the game’s direction and stayed with us.
